Author Help

The following will help you set up an author page, a story page, parts of a multi-part story, and a series page. If you have any questions about how the wiki works, please check the FAQ page.

Step 1 - Create an Author Page

Are you new to the wiki and don't have any stories posted here yet?

If so, your first step will be creating an Author Page. Enter your last name, the first letter in uppercase and the rest in lower case - this will be your GROUP name (that keeps all of your stories in one folder). Just include the letters - no spaces or special charactetrs (these will all be handled later). After you click the button, you will be taken to your new author page, where you will customize your page.

Step 2 - Create a Story Menu Page

You have an author page. (If you want to see it listed, click on the AUTHORS linked under SEARCH BY on the menu on the left . . . then come back here.)

Now it's time to create your Story Menu. It's not really a menu - more like a setup of those header text boxes that tell people what your work is about and includes words that cause your work to appear in search results.

In the box below, enter your GROUP name (that's your last name or your non de plume), then a period, then the name of your story - like this "GROUP.NameOfMyStory". Again only letters - no numbers, spaces, or other characters. After you click the button, you will be taken to your new story menu, where you will customize the page for that story.

Step 3 - Create Part One in a Multiple-Part Story

If you're back here, it means that you have more than one part to your story.

The Good News - we have a template to help you paste your story parts in a consistent format and link them all together.

The Bad News - you're going to have to create one page for every story part.

Yeah, I know it sucks, but bear with me.

In the box below, enter your GROUP name (that's your last name or your non de plume), then a period, then the name of your story followed by a two digit part number (01, 02, 12)- like this "GROUP.NameOfMyStory01". Only letters and numbers - no spaces, or other characters.

After you click the button, you will be taken to the first page of your multi-part story, where you will customize the page for that story and paste the contents into the page.

Step 4 - Create More Pages in a Multiple-Part Story

The first part is done - now for part two.

Repeat Step 3 and enter 02 instead of 01 each time a number is needed.

Below the PAGE FOOTER on your story part 02, change this: Chapter 1 | Chapter 2

to

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3

The center item is always the page that you are on - so you don't need a link. The item on the left is the previous page and the item on the right is the next page.

You will have to change this code for each page you create. The last page will only have two sections - the second to last page (a link) and the last page (no link).

Once you have entered all of your story parts and you have clicked your final SAVE on the last part, click the "Story Menu" link at the bottom of the page or the story title link at the top of the page; either link will take you back to the story menu. You should see a list of links for all of your story parts in alpha/numeric order.

Only the author and the website administrators can edit your pages. If the administrators created your pages for you, contact them with your username so the administratos can give you permission to edit all of the pages in your story group.

To post a new story (one part or many parts), repeat Step 2, Step 3, and Step 4 as necessary.

As always, if you have any problems, please email us at webmaster@bookofknowledge.org.

Step 5 - Create a Series Menu

If you have a series of stories that go together, first create the Story Menus and Story Pages for each story.

When you have posted all of the stories, you will create a Series Menu. In the box below, enter your GROUP name (that's your last name or your non de plume), then a period, then the name of your series - like this "Group.NameOfMySeries". Only letters and/or numbers - no spaces, or other characters. After you click the button, you will be taken to your new series menu, where you will customize the page for that series.
