| AUTHOR'S NOTES: | At the risk of falling flat on my face, I thought I'd have a go at a little Jules and Rebecca scene that was knocking about in my head trying to get out! <rueful grin> Hope you guys like it! (~;< |
(Rebecca is sitting at Jules writing table holding one of the pages he's been writing [clearly most of the night! lol] and is about to ask him to lunch on the Aurora)
RF: (as we heard her say) I hope you don't mind. I couldn't bear to wake you. This is exquisite! So, Jules, it appears that Natasha’s charming fairy tales inspired you in a slightly different direction. Yes, a new genre!
JV: Yes, Rebecca, grinding my teeth with envy seems to have prodded me to to get my notes into a slightly more coherent form. And, then there was that business with the rocket, of course! (smiles crookedly)
RF: (ruefully) Yes, rather! Sometimes you can be a bit blinded by your science, Jules!!
JV: (grins ruefully) Uh, yes, nearly got myself launched to the moon the hard way. But, it got me thinking, you know. I thought, perhaps, a tale of a small adventure to the moon... (looks off dreamily out the window)
RF: (smiles indulgently) Ah, Jules, one day these tales of yours will make you famous, I think!
JV: (drops his head in embarrassment) Oh, Rebecca, I don’t think so. It’s just a bit of speculation, you know. But, if it hadn’t been for Phileas’ advice on letting go, I wouldn’t even be here writing my little story now! How is your cousin, Rebecca?
RF: (exasperatedly) Ah, Jules! You know Phileas. Prickly as ever! Seems I was getting on his nerves a bit. I’m not really very good at being idle! The darts, his time for reading his bloody newspaper, well, you can imagine...
JV: (smiling and nodding) So, you suggested a little jaunt to Paris to spend time with your friend and her grandfather?
RF: (a small grin turns up the corner of her mouth) Well, you know how it is Jules. I, ah, persuaded Phig that taking a little excursion to Monte Carlo after dropping me off here in Paris for my visit with Amateratsu would be just the most marvelous jaunt and a nice treat for you, as well.
JV: (looking slightly doubtful) Ah, Monte Carlo, you say. Well, uh, I suppose I can keep Passepartout company and then help him carry all Phileas’ winnings back to the Aurora! But, after the last wager Phileas made, are you sure it’s such a good idea to encourage him in this penchant for gambling of his Rebecca?!
RF: (roll her eyes) Point taken, Jules! But, almost anything is better than having him brooding and being testy on the Aurora! And, besides, you know what phenomenal luck he has at cards and there won’t be any Nicolai to cheat him again, thanks to your having made him a reluctant lunarnaut!
JV: (laughing quietly) Yes, I must admit to a certain amount of envy that he was heading for the moon instead of me! I’ll just have to enjoy the journey through my imagination for now.
RF: (inspecting Jules more closely) So, Jules, when was the last time you had a decent meal? Or a good night’s sleep for that matter?! I know how you can be when you get involved in your writing!! Just how many nights in a row have you fallen asleep in your clothes while pursuing the writing of this little adventure of yours?!!
JV: (looking uncertain) Hmmm, well, I’m not sure I am quite certain of the answers to either of those questions, Rebecca! I just get kind of carried away and the time just, well, slips by me.
RF: (reaches out to stroke his cheek affectionately) Yessss, I do know exactly what you mean. So, come on now, get a bit of polish on, come join us for a hearty lunch of Passepartout's incomparable cuisine, and meet my dear friend Amateratsu. As I said, I’m sure you’ll get on famously since she’s another bloody intellectual.
(The walk arm in arm to the door of Jules’ garret and Rebecca embraces Jules warmly before taking her leave of him until later)
